Today is Day 7 of Happiness Month and it will be continuing all month long. This all started at the Secret Society of Happy People and if you want to pop over there and become an Amused Member, you can get a Free 31 Types of Happiness poster. As you can tell by my daily #HappinessHappens tweets and Facebook posts, I’ve been a member for a long, long time!
Today, to add happiness to your life: Compassion. Sometimes our lack of happiness is that we are so focused on ourselves we forget others. So bring happiness to your life by showing compassion for another human or animal friend. The word “compassion” is a noun, and that means it is a word used to identify a class or kind of person. Compassion means:
- sympathetic consciousness of others’ distress together with a desire to alleviate it
When your spouse is involved in an affair, it can be REALLY TEMPTING to want everyone to be compassionate toward you. After all, you are the aggrieved party, and you are the one who’s been betrayed and hurt! But to enter true reconciliation and rebuild a stronger, healthier marriage, it is imperative for you to also look beyond your own pain and see your Disloyal Spouse’s pain as well. Showing compassion does not relieve your Disloyal of the consequences of their choices, but it can show them that you can put yourself in their shoes, that you can understand how they felt, and that you don’t want that hurt to continue … you have a desire to alleviate it. This one–showing compassion–can be really hard work, but the happiness you gain is twofold: a) you are a better person for being compassionate, and b) you have the lifelong joy of healthy, intimate marriage.
Over the next days, we’ll be going over all 31 ways to Add Happiness Every Day. You know too often I hear young people say “He doesn’t make me happy” or “I wish she would make me happy” but you know what? Happiness is not something that someone else “makes” you feel. You make choices in your life that can affect your happiness….and ultimately you CHOOSE whether to be happy every day or not. You can also choose to do things that would add happiness to your life every single today.
