Today is Day 5 of Happiness Month and it will be continuing all month long. As you can tell by my daily #HappinessHappens tweets and Facebook posts, I’ve been a member for a long, long time!
Today, to add happiness to your life: Celebrate!! Not every day is your birthday or anniversary, but each day does bring you something to celebrate. The word “celebrate” is a verb…so again there is something we need to DO. It means:
- Mark (a significant or happy day or event), typically with a social gathering: “his parents threw a party to celebrate his graduation”.
- Do something enjoyable to mark such an occasion: “she celebrated with a glass of champagne”.
Are you and your spouse attempting to reconcile? What can you do to mark a significant or happy event with your spouse today? Okay so maybe it’s not a birthday or anniversary today–how about something cute and a little silly like “the anniversary of the last time I thought about you” (which was..5 minutes ago!)? Or why not commemorate a small achievement: “One Week with No Fights!” What treat or especially enjoyable delight can you give to your spouse to show respect for their accomplishment–whether it was big or small? And if your spouse is embroiled in their affair and will not end it, that does not in any way exclude YOU from finding your own happiness. What can you do FOR YOU to recognize completion of a goal or doing something “on your own” that you had never done before? Celebrate YOU–and add happiness to your life.
Over the next days, we’ll be going over all 31 ways to Add Happiness Every Day. You know too often I hear young people say “He doesn’t make me happy” or “I wish she would make me happy” but you know what? Happiness is not something that someone else “makes” you feel. You make choices in your life that can affect your happiness….and ultimately you CHOOSE whether to be happy every day or not. You can also choose to do things that would add happiness to your life every single today.
